Acupuncture

When it comes to pain relief and releasing tight trigger points in the body acupuncture is one of the best treatment modalities we use at Body Wise Health.

For those who have never experienced acupuncture before it involves the insertion of fine needles into the body for pain relief, release of trigger points and helping the body with healing. A number of needles may be used at each treatment and these are typically left in position for up to 20-30 minutes before being removed. A needle is manipulated until a QI sensation is felt (a tingling or often warm heavy sensation).

Physiotherapists in New Zealand use acupuncture needles that are disposable, single use, pre-sterilised needles of varying widths and lengths.

Acupuncture can be used to treat many injuries, sprains and strains including but not limited to the following:

  • Lower back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Shoulder pain including bursitis and rotator cuff injuries
  • Elbow pain including tennis elbow symptoms
  • Hand injuries including tenosynovitis, thumb osteoarthritis
  • Hip problems including osteoarthritis, gluteal pain
  • Knee pain including knee ligaments and osteoarthritis of the knee
  • Ankle and foot injuries including Achilles strains and Achilles tendinosis, planta fasciitis and ankle sprains
  • Headaches
