About us

At Body Wise Health we take a holistic approach to your health. We treat the person not just your injury. We are aware that not everyone responds the same to treatment. Knowing this we are able to tailor your treatment to your individual needs to make sure you achieve your goals.

We are experienced Musculoskeletal Physiotherapists and are skilled in a wide range of treatments including sports physio, massage therapy, spinal and joint mobilisations and manipulation and pilates.

Health and wellness are my passion and this is expressed through Body Wise Health which I started in May 2010 when I joined the team at the Marshlands Family Health Centre (previously Gayhurst Medical Centre). I have nearly 20 years experience in the field of Physiotherapy, having worked in a vast range of positions in New Zealand and overseas in the USA and the UK. With a Masters in Health Science in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, I am an APPI Pilates Instructor, a qualified Occupational Health Physiotherapist and trained in Acupuncture for Musculoskeletal conditions.

My mission is to help others achieve optimal health and wellbeing and I have a strong belief in a holistic and proactive approach to health. I do this through a combination of traditional Sports Physiotherapy, Massage and Myofascial Therapy, Acupuncture, Spinal Mobilisations and Manipulation, Pilates, Wellness Coaching, Woman's Health, Stress Management and Work Site Assessments.

“I look forward to meeting you and helping out with your individual physiotherapy and health goals”.

Ruth joined the team in January 2017 and is a wonderful addition, with her wide and extensive experience in many areas of Physiotherapy.

I’ve had a varied career as a Physiotherapist, from working in my own private physio clinic in Christchurch to working with the elderly and most recently working in Mental Health Services. I’ve been physio for various sporting teams including Tennis, Rugby, Netball, and most recently for Volleyball representative teams.

I have 2 children, aged 18 and 15 years. My daughter currently has an Indoor Volleyball sporting scholarship at the University of Minnesota this year. My son attends Burnside High school.

As a (much) younger person, I also completed a Degree in Physical Education before heading off overseas to pursue a career in professional tennis. I have competed and played tennis all around the world, and used to base myself in Germany at the start of each playing season to start my build up for the Pro tennis tour. My highest world ranking on the Womens’ Singles WTA tour was 208 in the 1980’s, while Doubles was Top 100.

These days I love to run, bike, go tramping when I can and play some social tennis and travel. Last year, I travelled on a safari in Africa and to the pyramids in Egypt. I watched my daughter compete in the World Beach Under 19 Champs in Cyprus.

"I look forward to meeting you and helping out with your individual and physiotherapy health goals!"
Community Projects

At Body Wise it is our vision and goal to be the Community Health Care Provider of choice and we love being able to give back in meaningful ways where we can.

As part of our giving back we have teamed up with talented Graphic Designer Elaina at the Eight Project and each month we celebrate "Last Months Giving". To read more about the creative projects of The Eight Project and last months giving click here.

At Body Wise Health we also support and love the work of the USANA True Health Foundation and the work they do here in New Zealand with Kids Can and a number of charities world wide including The Child Hunger Fund. This year our team in Salt lake City raised over $1300 for the True Health Foundation. To read more about this amazing foundation click here.
